Capitol Reef Camping

We took a weekend at the beginning of June to do a two night camping trip near Capitol Reef National Park.  We were lucky enough to have our friends come with us!  It was a great time in a beautiful place.

We found ourselves a gorgeous free campsite just before entering Capitol Reef National Park, where the kids could play, climb, and get covered in red dirt.

We spent the first evening exploring the area and roasting hot dogs for dinner.

The next morning we headed into the park for a visit to the visitor's center.

Then we went on a nice little walk along the river there.

Of course we could not resist playing in the river.

Then we went on a little drive to see Capitol Reef and to let the kiddos take naps.

Back at camp we played, hiked, caught a lizard, ran away from a huge snake, rode bikes, drove the remote control cars, ate a delicious tinfoil dinner followed by s'mores, and then put the kids to bed.

After the kids were asleep, I was happy to spend a little time quietly observing the beauty around me and contemplating how blessed I am to have the most wonderful family and friends and to have the opportunity to experience vistas such as this.

The camping trip ended a little earlier than planned when we woke up the next morning to an extremely crazy windstorm causing the Cookes to take shelter in our tiny trailer, while Mark and Kevin promptly packed up the tent trailer and then we called it a trip and headed home.
