January 2015

January started out snowy, but the rest of the month was very springlike. The warm weather was a blessing for us with all the work we have needed to do outside in the yard and on the house.

The kids had a day off on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so we took the day up to the Ranch.  It ended up being the perfect fun in the snow day and probably the only one we'll have all winter.  We tubed behind the six-wheelr, cross country skied, and built many snowmen and snow sculptures with the best building snow we could ask for.

I was very pleased to learn that Brian has a natural knack for cross country skiing.  He loved it and was very good at it.  Timmy got a few feet and decided he was done.  Maybe in a couple of years he'll enjoy it more.

There goes Brian leading the way into the field.

Then is nothing more fun that getting pulled around the field behind the six-wheeler.  I'm so glad the boys enjoy one of my favorite winter past times.

Timmy was very tenacious with building snowmen all by himself.  He built the one above without any help, and rolled that huge ball below without help as well.

Timmy started piano lessons in January.  He is doing very well and I'm learning he works hard for incentives.

We had a few sick days in January as well.  Timmy had a high fever for several days in a row.  Then after he felt better he pretended to be sick because he wanted to stay home and watch TV.  One morning I told him if he was sick enough to stay home from school, he was sick enough to stay in bed all day.  We had one morning of staying in bed and then he no longer wanted to pretend to be sick.

We had a fun visit to the aquarium.  The boys love that place.

One day Timmy was playing in the basement making a fort.  It then got really quiet and I went down to check on him.  At first glance this just looks like a pile of junk.  But if you look closely you'll find a well thought out fort with Timmy sleeping peacefully inside.  There was another brown pillow covering that window which I removed for a picture.

January brought the completion of our gate into the park at the back of the property.  It was a Christmas gift from my parents and we use it all the time for playing on the playground, running and riding bikes around the pathway, and walking to neighbors houses.

At the end of January the boys got to go to their cousin Jordan's birthday party at the Classic Fun Center.  They had the time of their lives!  Thank you Jordan and his family for having us!

Mark's free time was spent digging, hauling four trailer loads of rocks, and placing those rocks to make a well drained patio for the basement entrance.  It was so much work and the work continues as we move loads and loads of dirt.  I wish I would have taken a before picture, but once again I forgot.  Here's what I do have for January's progression.

Mark could not have done it without the help of his parents.  They came many days to help dig up all that dirt.  They certainly did way more than I did.  Pictures of the basement progress will be coming soon.
