Mother's Day 2014

This year on Mother's Day Brian was sick, poor guy.  He had been throwing up the night before, so I took Timmy to church and Mark stayed home with Brian.  I missed Brian at church because the Primary kids sang in Sacrament Meeting and he is one of my best singers.

I think that because Brian was not there, Timmy felt like he needed to step it up and fill in for any missing cuteness.  At Christmas time, Timmy refused to come and sing with the Primary in Sacrament Meeting and so I tried hard to prepare him for Mother's Day and hoped for his cooperation.  Boy did he cooperate.  In fact he stole the whole show. It was the best Mother's Day gift ever to be leading the children in a song and have Timmy's cute smiling face right in front of me blasting out every word of that song with never before seen gusto! Then to top it off, he held the last note out about 5 seconds longer than the other children and ended the song with the most dashing smile you could imagine.  He was loud and his timing and pitch were off, but he sang every single word and it was the cutest most adorable thing on the planet.  I was completely surprised by his Sacrament Meeting singing debut.  The whole rest of church was a never ending stream of Timmy compliments.  I had people seek me out just to tell me how he made their Mother's Day.  I will never forget three-year-old Timmy singing in Sacrament meeting for the first time.  It was pretty special.

Later that day we got to celebrate at Mark's parent's house with one of my favorite noodle dishes his mom makes.  My own Mom got to spend Mother's Day with my sister in Texas.  I am so grateful for the mother I have and for my mother-in-law.  I could not ask for better mothers in my life!

Brian's First Piano Recital

Brian performed in his first piano recital this month. He did an amazing job! I'm so proud of him. His teacher had him do a lot of practice performances, which made his first recital go super smoothly.  He played Little Lotus Blossom by Melody Bober. I love that his teacher had someone take picture and video for us! Way to go Brian!

Mark's Birthday

All the boys were spoiled when Mark got these cool toys for his 32nd birthday! Two amazing drive anywhere remote control monster trucks!

His birthday was a regular old day with school and work, then ended with playing with the rc trucks, singing happy birthday, and eating cake!

Brian and Timmy thought it was the best!  Happy Birthday Mark!

April

During the first week of April, the kids had some time off of school for Spring Break, so we spent one of those mornings at the new aquarium.  The normal time it opens is at 10:00 a.m., but through April it opened at 9:00 a.m.  I am glad I checked on the website and I'm glad we went at 9:00.  We were seriously almost the only people there for an hour.  It was so fun!

Brian and Timmy loved it so much!  They couldn't even decide what was their favorite exhibit. We'll be back soon!

We also watched a show there about coral reefs in 4D.  I had no idea what 4D meant until we got there.  We wore 3D glasses, the seats rumbled, and mist and smells were sprayed on us at certain times during the show.  Brian said he liked the whole experience, even though he looked super scared the whole time.  Timmy liked the movie, but hated the ocean smells that were sprayed in his face.  He barely made it to the end.

The boys are doing well in gymnastics and enjoying it too.

We've been doing some yard work.  Mark cut down the dead Aspen, which helps the look of the yard.  Thank you Mark!

I love love love Springtime!  April is such a fun month.  I love watching the world come to life with flowers and blossoms and green grass and leaves.  The kids and I have been getting out on the bikes a lot recently.

On Tuesday mornings when Timmy and Brian are both in school, I usually get a long bike ride in all by myself or if I'm lucky my neighbor can go with me and show me the ropes in cycling with another person.  She has been biking for years and it's nice to go with her when we can!  I know I look ridiculous in this picture, but I always look ridiculous, so I might as well keep it real and include pictures of myself on here once in a while. This was on a beautiful April morning after a super steep climb, which rewarded me with a nice view and a fun downhill ride home. Mornings like this make me so happy and I want to remember them.

I also want to remember the April jogs along the canal.  I am attempting to train for a little sprint triathlon, so after I cycle I try to jog for a little bit to get my legs used to going from biking to running.  We are so lucky to have about a mile stretch of trail next to our house that looks like this in the springtime.

Usually I will see several mama ducks with her babies.

And often groups of Canadian geese with their babies as well.

April made me feel grateful for God's creations and all the opportunities I have to enjoy them.
