Thumb Sucker Stomach Sleeper

I have at times worried about both of these new tricks Brian has learned, like when I am reading all the literature that says babies should be sleeping on their backs, or when random ladies at church see Brian sucking his thumb and they say "Oh no! He's found his thumb." But, when he has only consistently started sleeping through the night since both thumb sucking and stomach sleeping have started, I decided I am perfectly happy with Brian's new tricks.

He'll start out like this. . .
. . .and end up like this.
He also falls asleep much faster while sucking his thumb, and he can sometimes sleep anywhere.
All in all, he's one fantastic baby!

A Shakespearean Tradition

Thanks to my Mother, my family has the greatest tradition of going to the Utah Shakespearean Festival in Cedar City every summer. I look forward to this trip more than anything and always have such a good time. If you've never been to the Tony Award Winning Festival, it is definitely worth money for tickets, gas and hotel. This year was a little different because it was Brian's first trip. Luckily there is a great child care center associated with the festival and they watch the kids while the adults enjoy the plays.

Mark, Brian and I went with my Mom, my sister Emily and her three little boys, my sister Allison and her little boy, and my sister Mandy. So all together we had five girls, Mark, and five little boys.

This year we were able to see Taming of the Shrew, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Fiddler on the Roof, and Cyrano de Bergerac. All of them were so good and I would watch them again in a heart beat. Here's a little video detailing the trip, except the plays, which you should just go experience for yourself. Check out some great photos of the plays at http://www.bard.org/news/photos.html

First Time Swimming

My sister-in-law Vivian invited Brian and me over for a swim this morning in their pool. It was Brian's first time actually getting in the pool. Once he got used to the water he didn't think it was so bad. Hopefully he'll become a little water baby like his cousin Xander.
He's already a beach bum, even though he wasn't on the beach and he was sun bathing in the shade.

Cousin Xander's First Birthday!

Brian's cousin Xander turned one over the weekend and to celebrate we went to a fun little party his parents Vivian and Jake put on for him. It was so fun to be with the family, eat good food, and especially fun to watch Xander eat (or play rather) with his Birthday cake. Happy Birthday Xander!

Brian had a really good time as well. These two boys are going to be trouble in a few years.

Fourth of July Fun

I love the Fourth of July and all the fun that comes with it. I love that we get to celebrate this great country we live in and the freedoms we enjoy. Mark and I like to extend the fun as long as we can, celebrating both in Taylorsville and of course in Oakley and at the ranch.
It all started with the Taylorsville Dayzz firework show. We live right next to the park where they were set off, and we enjoyed the 40 minute show from our own roof with Mark's family. I've never seen a better firework show and from such a comfortable location (we put lawn chairs on the roof and ate ice cream).
Of course the celebration continued in Oakley with the famous Oakley Rodeo (clip at the end of the post) and on the day of the 4th the parade in Oakley. We save our spot the night before and get there early the next morning so we don't miss anything! My favorite part is still the candy. Brian enjoyed all of it but the loud fire trucks.

After the parade, tradition is to head over to the park for the town's Independence Day Program. I always leave the program feeling proud to be an American. My sister did some great fiddling and she also sang with my mom (on the right in the back) in the choir. Nice work ladies!

Back at the ranch, we enjoyed the Cannon family BBQ with Uncle Richard's hamburgers and a whole lot of family fun. My cousin and my sister made a new incredible rope swing (Mark enjoying it above) that swings really high over the field. So high in fact it's a little scary.
Brian has become the little outdoors man and just enjoyed being outside and around so many people.
To end the fun, Mark took us fishing the next day. This was Brian's first time (of many to come I'm sure) fishing with daddy. He was more interested in the fluttering leaves on the trees than the fishing pole, but with Mark's tutelage I'm sure that will change soon.

First Haircut at Three Months

Brian was born needing a haircut, but we just decided to let it grow for awhile because once it is cut you can't ever get that newborn hair back.
Finally we decided that below the ears is just too long for a little boy, so Mark gave him his first hair cut to celebrate his three month Birthday.
Happy Three Months Brian!

Holding a wiggly three month old with sharp scissors around was a little more difficult than it looks, so we ended up finishing the job with Brian on the bed. There'll be more pictures of his new do to come.
