Tim Tim The Two Year Old

Timothy has a special talent for making me smile.  There is just something about him that always brings a huge smile to my face.  He is funny and quirky and to me the cutest thing on the planet.  Lately he has really become a little chatter box.  He is talking so much and I love his little voice.  Most of the time he speaks slowly and deliberately pronouncing each word the best he can.  Other times he mumbles and I have no idea what he is trying to say.  If he decides he wants to, he will say the family prayer following our prompts.  He is particular about some things like putting the hand towel back just the right way after drying his hands, but most of the time he goes with the flow and adjusts quickly to change.

The first person Timmy asks for when I go in to get him when he wakes up is Brian.  He either says "Where's Brian?" or "Brian Go?" (Where did Brian go).  Recently he has been copying everything Brian says down to the way he said it.  I find it hilarious because most of the time he has no idea what Brian is even talking about, he just wants to do what his older brother does.  They are playing so well together and the house is often filled with lots and lots of laughter mixed with screams of delight.  Timmy has the best laugh ever.  It is infectious and down right adorable.
This guy is on the move.  I have a hard time getting good pictures of him now, because he is always busy running somewhere else.  He is pretty physical in his play.  He has no qualms about diving head first into his Dad or Brian in order to start a wrestling match.  One of his favorite things to do is tackle Brian to the ground.  Someone always ends up crying, but he still does it over and over again.  When he is mad he throws his whole body on the ground or bashes his head into something.  Yikes!  I'm always a bit worried he is really going to hurt himself sometime.
Like me, he has had a hard time staying healthy.  Just within the last month he has had a nasty cold, a sinus infection, an ear infection and Hand Foot Mouth Disease which has resulted in what I think might be another sinus infection.  I feel so bad for him.  Through all his sickness though he is generally happy.  There were a few really hard days, but I think overall he is a trooper.
Timmy likes to play with his train table everyday and he loves tractors right now.  He now enjoys reading with me, but no matter how hard I try to get him to like my favorite books, he still loves his books about tractors and machines the best.  His favorites right now are A Truck Goes Rattley-Bumpa by Jonathan London and Roadwork by Sally Sutton.  He gets so happy when we read those books for the millionth time.
Timmy enjoys playing with play-doh and he wants to do whatever Brian is doing.
He loves playing outside, but for some reason he has the words outside and inside mixed up right now.  We will be playing inside and he will start asking to "go inside" over and over again while trying desperately to put his shoes on by himself.  He means that he wants to go out and play.  He also says "hold you" often when he wants to be held.  I do love how he always remembers to say please and thank you and he is quick to say sorry when he does something mean to Brian.

Timmy is funny about his sleep.  Every few nights, even though he seems very tired, he will talk and play and laugh in his bed for hours until very late at night when he finally gets himself to sleep.  Then he will sleep in a bit in the morning and be grumpy that morning until he gets his nap around noon.  Then if he stayed up late playing the night before he will take a long, sometimes three hour nap, if he went to bed at a decent hour the night before, he will sleep for a little under 2 hours. He does go to bed usually between 6:30-7:00 p.m., but like I said, it changes every night when he actually falls asleep.  Sometimes he is asleep a few minutes after he goes in bed and sometimes it is hours later.  He usually wakes up somewhere between 7:15 and 8:00 a.m.  He likes to be left alone in his bed for usually 15 minutes or so after I hear him wake up.  I guess he needs the wake up time to himself, because he gets mad at me if I go in there before he is ready.

Timmy is just an overall delight to have around.  He brings laughter and smiles to our home, which is such a blessing because I know that I am a more serious person by nature.  We are so grateful for you Tim Tim!

Gymnastics

Brian participated in a 12 week session of gymnastics.  It was a very good experience for him.  I really think that it helped his confidence, balance, and coordination.

Brian's First Year of Preschool

I can't believe this little guy has already finished a year of preschool.  I am very happy with how his first preschool experience turned out.  I loved his teacher and he loved EVERYTHING about preschool.  I think school in general will suit Brian very well.  We will see what happens in the future, but he enjoyed his first year. He went two mornings a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  He was loved by his teachers and liked by all his classmates.

The end of year program was a delight to watch.  Brian was so cute singing all the songs and participating so well.  He got a little embarrassed following his award, but other than that I was amazed at how well he performed.

Brian got the "Answer Man" award because his teacher said that Brian knew the answer to every single question she ever asked.

I am so proud of Brian in many ways.  He worked hard in his class to listen to his teachers and to treat the other kids well the whole year.  A mother of one of the boys in his class came up to me at the end of school and asked which class Brian would be in next year.  She said it was really important for her to have her son in Brian's class next year and asked if he would play with her little guy at times during the summer.  She said Brian was just really good for her boy and she wanted her son to be around Brian as much as possible.  I thought it was a very nice compliment to my little four year old man.  He is the coolest preschooler out there.

Visit From Mark's Cousins

Mark had some close cousins come visit his parents from California a few weeks ago.  His cousin has a little girl Brian's age so we tried to do as much with them while they were here as possible.  We went on a nice hike up Bell Canyon, went out to eat, and enjoyed time at Mark's parent's house.  It was a wonderful weekend and Brian just adored his second cousin Tori and still talks about her.

This was how Brian reacted when it was time to say goodbye.  He was sooooo sad.

Butterflies

Brian got a butterfly habitat for his birthday.  We ordered live caterpillars and watched them morph into beautiful butterflies.  I personally thought it was the coolest thing ever and Brian is still telling everyone about it as well.

They started out small.
They ate and ate and they grew and grew
 Until they formed their chrysalides.
Then we put them into the habitat
And watched them emerge

We observed and watched and observed the butterflies some more for days.
And then we let them go.

This was a bitter sweet moment for Brian.  It was so fun to have the butterflies climb on his finger and then to watch them fly away, but when they were all gone he kept saying over and over, "I just miss my butterflies."  Such a beautiful experience.
