Blankie and Doggy are such a big part of Brian's life that they definitely deserve a post of their own. Blankie was a gift from my aunt and uncle and I often used it when Brian was a baby because it was so soft. Here it is in all it's plush softness.
Brian was first attached to a darling crochet blanket his Aunt Vivian gave him, but he kept twisting the yarn so tightly around one of his fingers that we were worried enough to force him to switch blankets.
I gave him his current soft blankie to replace the other and after a few sad weeks and difficult nights, he loved it just as much. He loved it so much that we decided to cut it in half and rotate the two halves in order to get it washed as often as it needed. Rotating the two blankets worked until I let him have one for about four days. During those four days he not only became attached to that one blanket half, but to one specific corner of that blanket. He refused to take the other one and we have been stuck with the one ever since.
Here he is proudly showing off the special corner. He has appropriately named it "yucky corner." He knows very well how yucky it really is, but he is so proud of it. He happily shows and tells everyone at church that, "that's my yucky corner."
That corner is so yucky because he loves to use it to tickle his nose. For some reason he loves that feeling and he goes to sleep sucking his thumb while at the same time tickling his nose with his yucky corner.
I have washed Blankie so many times and I have come to terms with the fact that it will always look like a dirty gray towel rather than the beautiful soft plush blanket. Blankie goes everywhere with Brian and has even been to Taiwan where it was almost left on the train. I don't even want to think about what would happen if Blankie went missing.
Blankie is Brian's favorite comfort item, but Doggy is always around too. Brian sleeps with Doggy, plays with Doggy, feeds Doggy, reads books to Doggy, talks to Doggy, and loves Doggy to pieces. Doggy has also been to Taiwan, San Diego, and any other sleepover trip.
Luckily I have been able to convince Brian that Doggy needs to stay home during the day when we are out and about so he won't get dirty or lost. Blankie on the other hand has to go EVERYWHERE with us, even if he is just riding along in my bag. Brian just wants to know he is available. I now carry a large enough diaper bag to accommodate Blankie. No matter how "yucky" Blankie and Doggy get, I think Brian will always love them. I guess we just hope they can survive all that love.
